Main Symptomatology
Inattention, Hyperactivity, Impulsivity
The adventures of Winnie The Pooh have provided delight for many generations with its lively and unique characters. They were written by Alan Milne, an English writer in 1932. In his characters one finds that they show symptoms that are reflective of those of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The character whose inattention symptoms are more pronounced is Pooh Bear. At the beginning of the clip he gets distracted and walks in the wrong direction. Later on, he is a bit clumsy and falls in the water. At the end of the clip he has no idea of how the pole landed on his hands. Tigger is characterized by his hyperactivity and impulsivity. In the story he jumps, dances and sings in an excited manner. ADHD can also be accompanied by other conditions such as depression (exemplified by Eyeore), generalized anxiety disorder (observed in Piglet), learning disorders (Owl), obsessive compulsive disorder (Pooh) and autism (Roo). In other blog entries we will discuss other symptoms and how we diagnose ADHD.
